This is great......You can have it included with the hardware, and also standalone..I personally would only be interested in the standalone software version.... only one thing is missing from the panel, that is, the transition selection.....but this is what is missing from vMix....and can work along with the multiview output for two person operation.....also for touchscreen with an ipad etc.....

Good to hear. There is also a possibility this will be compatible with OSX and iOS as well.

I think any control surface is a great add on solution.
I have come up with what I feel suits me best and for my workflow.
Seen here UserPostedImage
I can chose to use the basic web interface or any shortcuts I've created which in my case is rarely the same.
So this allows to only show buttons I'm using or never need one more button that isn't there.
BTW I am selling this fader as seen in this post

I'd like to get some feedback on my fader control.
So if you have any thoughts good or bad please share.
The device works great and is easy to setup.
Thank you in advance.

You need your device on the same network as your vMix machine. Ensure that vMix has the web interface enabled (see help files) and on the tablet browse to the vMix machine and port you have set. i.e. 192.168.2.123:8080

Great....this what vMix needs....now, what about the software version.......wish Martin would have made this in his software from the begining, as most professional people use this type of setup...it gives much better control and smoother operation ......I asked for something like this for a long time.....but now, a software version is what I need, ...don't think I want the hardware version at this time.....my friend who does a lot of work with his system would definately need it, since he is always using 3 or more cameras on a regular basis

Hi Bardos,

Could you mention in a bit more detail how you think the UI could be more like this surface?
Everything in this control surface maps directly to what is available in vMix on screen, for example:

Turn on overlay
vMix: Click 1,2,3,4 directly under input in vMix
Surface: DSK1,2,3,4 then select the input number on the surface

Select input into Preview
vMix: Click input
Surface: Press numbered button on Preview row

Select input into Program
vMix: Click cut button under input (or change mouse click action to Cut
Surface: Press numbered button on Program row

T-Bar:
vMix: drag tbar with mouse
Surface: move tbar

Shortcuts
vMix: assign to keyboard button
Surface: assign to F1,F2 or F3 buttons

The major advantage of a control surface is it faster to use than a mouse and provides tactile feedback.

Regards,

Martin

I would add another big advantage when an external control surface (hard/soft) interacting with vMix via the API. Ít supports two people controlling vMix. For example one is switching and the other is preparing clips, titles, photos/slides, ppt:s, etc. That is not possible if everything is done via keyboard/mouse, as Windows' input focus always is on the active window. Ff one person has opened up a Slide show setting, and the other hits a key for a shortcut, that key is sent to the slideshow setting.

This is also the case for one-man-ops, where swithing is impossible when one for example is cropping an input. Yup, our staff is like jet fighter pilots with a fantastic skill for simultaneous task management :)

Yes it would be a great advantage to have a software version of this control surface, maybe an iPad app like the BlackMagic ATEM controllers have.

As richardgatarski says when you are trying to set the next shot up or preparing clips, titles etc. I work on my own with a presenter/talking head and you can easily miss your queue to go live with the next shot, so if we had an iPad app the presenter could switch to go live with the next shot.

Edit: And how easy will it be for people around the world to buy this control surface? Not that easy I suspect, that it why I think it would be a great advantage of having a software app, that way you can pay for it and download it anywhere in the world. But it would have to be at a reasonable price like the ATEM iPad app is.

Hi folks,

We expect the vMix Control Surface to be available at the beginning of May. Retail price is set at $1995 though I expect you will find it available for around $1900 on the street. It will be sold through our authorized network of vMix systems resellers who are able to take pre-orders today. Seth did a great job on this for us and we expect to engage him in some new projects going forward.

We will be showing the Control Surface at all vMix demo locations at NAB next week including the vMix and AJA booths.

Hi Martin, I agree with you, just that for persons like me who is used to traditional switchers, it is a bit slow....what I am refering to, is the software version that was shown some months ago by thecloudmediagroup, which was demonstrated on a youtube video.......It looks like the hardware version, which could be used on a second monitor for the director to use, similar to the Blackmagic ATEM control surface....that would certainly be a great add-on to have for those who do not want, or can not afford at this time, an hardware control surface....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzdPOrMsq1I......this is what I am looking foward to seeing......if you can create a similar control surface, with touchscreen capabilities, that would be so nice.....

At this moment, I use the keyboard to do my selections, since I discovered that the bottom row of keys (Z-M) correspond to the inputs, and send them directly to the Output with the selected transition, the middle row of keys (A - L) send inputs to Output as a straight cut, and the top row, (Q - P) sends the inputs to the 'Preview'..I then programmed other keys to do different functions....but for someone coming straight to my PC, would have to try to remember, or have a detailed layout of my setup....With the control surface, it is all spelt out for them......

Hi everyone. Is it possible to run both an Xkeys controller (which I understand presents itself as a MIDI device to vMix) AND the vMix Control Surface at the same time? I would ideally like the vMix control surface to take precedence in terms of automtically locking button 1 to input 1, button 2 to input 2 and so on (even if the inputs change)

Thanks!
David

I am hoping for the software control surface shown in this Youtube video
....... just what I would prefer...simple, traditional, and all on the same PC.....rather than having to buy an iPad, or tablet.....This is much better for simple setups where only 2 or 3 cameras are use....great for a one person operation, better mobility as only one PC will be needed...
